let’s talk
Following the success of several luxury accommodation projects in the North East of England, Space ID were asked to look at a new concept in the heart of Durham City to create four distinctive apartments for short and long stays.
Our approach was to curate and design four themed suites, each with their own identity drawing from different corners of the world; Marrakesh suite, Andorra suite, Peking suite, and, Pioneer Suite.
Having established the themed suites early in the project, the next challenge was to knit the themed suites together in a cohesive manor in which to form a brand. This is where Curate Creative came in, and showed us just how valuable a strong narrative can be. By creating the fictional character, William Holme (local traveller and explorer), we were able to tell the story of how William had travelled the world, and Sanctuary Knocker was to be a collection of his favourite destinations in the heart of his homeland, Durham.
Sanctuary Knocker now stands as a unique accommodation experience within Durham, offering guests something far beyond a standard city stay. Each suite providing a memorable and transportive experience. It has quickly positioned itself as a destination in its own right – appealing to those seeking design-led stays, special occasions, and a more meaningful connection to travel and place.
